Default Age of Conan: What's wrong with it?

Just wondering, cause I started playing the free 7 day trial yesterday and I'm actually really enjoying it.

So yeah... I'm actually pretty strongly considering ponying up and subscribing.

But, I'd like to hear your complaints about it, or if you liked it, then that instead. I don't see much of anything wrong with it except the controls sucking, which can be changed... But I do know it's lost like 60% stock value since release and may be a sinking ship, heading the way of FURY and Hellgate: London... Funny, I liked Hellgate too.... But, if that's the case, then obviously there's something wrong, right?

I mean, I can't tell. I'm only like level 9, started yesterday. Maybe it sucks at higher level? Maybe it sucks when you get past 20 and leave Tortage?

So yeah, input, and comments appreciated.

game is awesome till lvl 20 (or was last year when i played), then it became grindy without enough content. And a big lack of content for max lvls. Many ppl left after 1-2 months after release last year, including me, however loads of them are now coming back as game has new leadership and had some great content updates and many of ppl are really enjoying it now. I'm going to re-subscribe this weekend and play for a month, then see if i'll like it enough to stay

does it still have that epic bug, where female characters deal less damage than males in melee?

Mainly it didn't live up to the hype. They promised all this cool content that never showed up, and from what I've heard, what's there right now is generally par or below par for the MMO course. So why would you settle for AoC when you can get something better? (haven't tried the game but have talked to someone who has)

Also, I didn't much mind Hellgate either, when I played it for a half hour or so on a friend's laptop (same friend that tried AoC). Almost wanted to get it, until I found out how buggy it was. I only got to play a little bit, so I didn't really notice how all the dungeons look the same or get high enough level to discover how the crafting system was broken. There was a horrific memory leak, too, from what I hear.

pretty sure it is. it's not because females deal less damage per hit, but because they hit LESS OFTEN because of their attack animation. the last time i checked, funcom hasn't even acknowledged this fact yet.

Well, what do the other MMO's have that AoC doesn't?

It has really nice graphics, nudity, hot guys/girls, swimming, climbing, mounts, jumping, nice gameplay, nice fighting, a lot of character customization options... To the point of being able to change the face like on Oblivion and being able to change the size of boobs, butt, stomach, arms, legs, height, thin/big/strong, and lots of tattoos and scar options and stuff.. different eye colors, skin tone, different hair colors... Being able to customize the GUI.

I tried WoW and all you could change on the characters were the pre selected faces, skin tone and hair and hair color. Same with Lineage II (minus skin tone, and with less faces). But, at least Linage II had decent graphics. WoW didn't even have that. Good graphics are really important to me...

I didn't have fun in WoW at all. It was like little cartoons, and the combat system was totally confusing and stupid (to me). The quests were long and stupid/boring (to me)...

As far as games go, they have to have amazing graphics. So, WoW's out of the question.

Right now, I see... AoC for right now, maybe Aion when it's released? I don't know... It looks kinda cool, but I haven't played it (obviously lol).

I never tried FURY, but I probably would've liked it, based on the graphics alone. Come to think of it, I probably liked Hellgate:London because of the graphics... Probably Lineage II too.. Played that for quite some time.

I'm definitely open to suggestions if anyone wants to throw some out there... At the moment though, I don't see anything wrong with AoC, and everyone seems to be pretty happy with some recent changes to it, like "it started as a horrible game but now is actually what it should have been" -- I think I read that somewhere...

You're gonna be in trouble when the next generation of games comes out and makes all current games look like roadkill. Will you still play these games when they no longer have amazing graphics? When the new games look so flashy and smooth that you start to see every jagged edge and dull texture in the old ones, will you still be able to stand them?

Early island was great. Wonderfully designed.

After that? Was fun running around hunting down other players with my minion master Necromancer and my Herald of Xotli... but only for a couple months.

like i said above, AoC has new leadership now that knows what they're doing and are actually listening to community and try to implement some ideas in some way or another. They also put all updates up on live test server for community to test and based on feedback they change it or let it go live.

I agree, AoC was extremely buggy and not enjoyable 10 months ago when i quit it, but really seeing how many ppl that left at simmilar time that i did are now returning to it and have only great things to say about game, i'm going to re-subscribe this weekend and try to stick with AoC till Aion is out

Also huge 1.5 (or something) update is coming soon, which will bring full direct x10 functionalities, new zones/dungeon etc. - trying to say that game is good atm but with many new updates coming, it will only go up and up

I wonder if Necromancer Minion Master is viable. And if levelling doesn't take so much grind anymore.

I don't know, I see a lot of Necros running around... They're kinda creepy. xD...

I did a Conqueror first and liked it, but just a couple hours ago I made a Barbarian and I'm enjoying that moreso.

I made a Tempest Of Set yesterday that I was playing around with, and it was kinda cool... Started out okay, but got really squishy by the time it got to the apes on the starting part. When I got up to the part where I have to bring the blacksmith stone bricks, she was having a super hard time. I don't know if they get easier later on or what, but yeah... The Cimmerians are prettier anyways. So, I went back to one of those.

I did pick up a bow today on my Barbarian and that seemed cool, so maybe I'll try rolling a Rogue or whatever thingy that uses the bow and try that too.

I made a HoX at some point my first day, but it didn't seem too great... I just kept wondering when I was going to get to turn into a demon, then ended up deleting it and moving on to another class instead. xD

Simply put? I dunno, probably not. By the time game graphics come out that make these games look like "roadkill" as you put it, I imagine I'll be playing those instead. Given how old these will be... lol

What, no nostalgia at all? Really gorgeous graphics are all well and good, but every so often I have to go load up something like Final Fantasy VII and replay it. I was extremely sad when I was playing FFVI and my little cousin wandered in, peered at the screen, and commented, "Is the screen spoilt? Why are there so few colours? The people look so weird!"

i c.... thanks, thats not good, i actually find it funny that the developer did not take into consideration that animation will affect the game play, which make them bad developer in a way. lol how can you not know that, you know, when you make the game, animating the characters. Unless the animation person is not the skills person, oh well.

Empress Amarox
I thought Fury is shut down.

They did actually admit the animation thing was wrong: Link

And they did fix it (a year ago): Link

And yeah, FURY was shut down. That's why I said I never tried it but I probably would've liked it, cause of nice graphics.

Well, if it takes years for games to make them look like roadkill then why would I still be paying a subscription to those games when there are much better games out? Just simple logic...

I was thinking in terms of non-subscription games as well, actually. I definitely wouldn't go back to the old subscription games once I found a better one.
